IMAGINE with Art

WCA has initiated the creation of a global-heating-themed play, to be written and performed by a youth group. Humor will be used to deliver the complex truth of our climate crisis by those most affected.

Synopsis: A ragtag group of teen investigators, desperate for business, is approached by a mystery client with deep pockets and top-secret corporate backing. The client offers an obscene amount of money for proof that the so-called "climate crisis" is a hoax. As the teens investigate a series of increasingly absurd conspiracy theories, they eventually realize that they are the ones being hoaxed—not by scientists, but by a system that values money over people and illusion over truth.

We are fortunate to have the services of a Ph.D. in Dramatic Arts, Dr. Adrienne MacIain (LinkedIn), who has spent three decades in collaborative play creation and production. Her expertise ensures that The Hoax will be a professionally facilitated, high-impact educational experience for Whidbey youth.

Milestones:

• Donations provided $3,000 for Phase 1 of the project.​ Thank you everyone!

• Dr. Adrienne MacIain was hired to work with a Coupeville high student drama group.

• Dr. MacIain held a two-day workshop of writing and improvisational exercises around the question: “If sea levels rose until there were no more beaches, what would you miss most?” She was blown away by the youth's creativity and commitment to the material, showcasing exactly how the arts can help the next generation to process climate realities with imagination and resilience.

• A Phase 2 has been mapped and includes developing the script and a public reading.​​​

We are looking for pledges to demonstrate community support to qualify for grants to finish production. Pledges will not be collected until we have enough resources guaranteed to finish the project.
